FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS PLENITY?
Plenity (formerly known as Gelesis100) is the latest weight loss device to hit the market that shows promise for those struggling with their body weight. Plenity, which may be mistaken for a weight loss medication due to its capsule form, is a device that simulates the sensation of fullness. Each capsule holds hydrogel particles. When exposed to water, the gel particles expand to approximately 100 times its weight taking up space in the stomach and intestine.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH PLENITY?
Plenity is FDA approved and considered a very safe weight loss device. Clinical studies have shown that Plenity incidence of side effects was comparable to that of a placebo. Although rare, common side effects can include diarrhea, distended abdomen, infrequent bowel movements, and flatulence. If you experience any of those symptoms you should always stop taking Plenity and contact your doctor right away.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR PLENITY?
Plenity is eligible for adults with excess weight or obesity, a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25–40 kg/m². It can be an extremely efficient weight loss device, especially when combined with diet and exercise life changes. Anyone under the age of 22 should avoid plenitude. Plenity should also not be taken if you are pregnant or allergic to cellulose, citric acid, sodium stearyl fumarate, gelatin, or titanium dioxide.
CAN PLENITY TREAT OBESITY?
Despite being suitable for all adults with excess weight or obesity, Plenity, like other medications, is not a magic bullet but simply a device to help you sustain common sense lifestyle changes. There is no ideal treatment for obesity. A medication that may be effective for a family member or a friend may not be the best option for you. Obesity treatment can be complicated, so it is best to work with a knowledgeable health care professional who is committed to working with you on a long-term basis.
DOES PLENITY CONTAINS ANY COMMON ALLERGENS?
Plenity is free of gluten, soy, wheat, peanuts, shellfish, lactose, dairy, sugar, alcohol, latex, and mercury. It also doesn't have any dyes, preservatives, or ingredients that are related to Para-Aminobenzoic Acid. Plenity is derived from natural sources: carboxymethyl cellulose (modified cellulose - cellulose is the fiber found in vegetables and plants) and citric acid (found in many fruits like lemons and limes).
