Clearer Skin With Proven Laser Technology

Laser vein removal softens the appearance of facial veins, spider veins, cherry angiomas, and small leg vessels using controlled light energy. At our SoHo location, providers use the CoolGlide™ ND:YAG system to safely target unwanted vessels while protecting surrounding skin, helping you achieve a more even, refined complexion without downtime.

What Is Laser Vein Removal?

Laser vein removal works by delivering focused ND:YAG energy into visible vessels, heating the vein walls until they collapse and close. The body then gradually absorbs the closed vessel. Most patients begin to see improvement after one to three sessions, while three to five treatments may be recommended for the most noticeable results. The Cutera XEO CoolGlide™ laser can treat nearly any area of the body safely and effectively.

StudioMD offers one of the most trusted laser vein removal options in the SoHo area.*

Laser Vein Removal Procedure Details

How Laser Vein Removal Works

The laser gently heats the targeted vessel, causing it to seal shut. Once closed, the vein fades as your body absorbs it. Treatment sessions are fast, comfortable, and allow you to return to work or your daily routines right away. Spider veins typically require one to three treatments, while cherry angiomas often respond in one or two.*

Candidacy for Treatment

The CoolGlide™ laser is designed to treat a wide range of skin tones due to its long wavelength. Patients with lighter skin tones may need fewer sessions for optimal results. We do not treat newly tanned skin, as fresh pigment can interfere with laser precision.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

To prepare for treatment:

  • Minimize sun exposure and avoid self-tanners for one to two weeks.
  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area.
  • Shave the area the day before or morning of your appointment.
  • Avoid excess surface hair, as it competes with the vessel for laser energy.
  • Some patients choose to take 2–3 Advil (200 mg) two hours beforehand.

Post-Treatment Instructions

The laser does not break the skin, so bandages are unnecessary. You will be able to return to work and daily activities immediately after treatment.

For best results:

  • Expect mild redness for one to two days.
  • Extra moisturizer may help if the skin feels dry the first evening.
  • Veins can look darker or more visible for a short time—this is normal.
  • Avoid tanning for two weeks and use SPF 25+ outdoors.
  • No compression stockings or special creams are needed.

What to Expect After Treatment

Redness usually improves quickly, often by the next day. Mild bruising may appear, more commonly on the legs, and fades within one to two weeks on the face or several weeks on the legs. Treated veins may temporarily darken before your body clears them naturally.

Will My Veins Reappear?

Laser treatment removes the targeted veins, but it does not prevent new vessels from forming. Genetics, lifestyle, and circulation patterns influence whether new veins develop. Many patients return every one to three years for touch-ups.*

After treatment, some veins collapse immediately and may contain residual blood, appearing red or purple. This pigment typically clears on its own over several weeks to months. The CoolGlide™’s extended pulse reduces the risk of bruising compared to earlier laser technologies, and many patients prefer this option after trying dye lasers elsewhere.

What Causes Spider and Varicose Veins?

Most visible veins stem from heredity, with up to an 80% likelihood of family association. Additional contributors include pregnancy, hormonal shifts, prolonged standing or sitting, limited exercise, excess weight, and natural aging—all of which can weaken vein walls and valves over time.
Results may vary based on individual conditions.
