FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical procedure that involves injecting natural pigments in the dermal layer of the scalp to add density and replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles. By camouflaging the surface area of the scalp where hair loss has already occurred, SMP creates the illusion of fuller hair and helps restore confidence and self-esteem in patients of all skin types. Overall, three main aspects affect the success of that illusion: your technician's assessment and expertise, the materials and method chosen, and the treatment specification.
HOW IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION DIFFERENT FROM TATTOOING?
In many ways, the Scalp Micropigmentation resembles tattooing, especially when it comes to the techniques required to perform the procedure. There are, however, a few significant differences related to the pigment ingredients and implant depth. While SMP pigments are implanted in the upper level of the Dermis, tattooing goes deeper into the second Dermis layer. At the same time, SMP pigments only contain natural ingredients, since the treatment does not require the use of chemicals that create and amplify the vibrancy of color in tattoos. With that, there is a significantly reduced risk of allergic reactions.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?
Scalp Micropigmentation is considered a safe and minimally invasive non-surgical solution to hair loss for both male and female patients. Overall, the procedure can greatly benefit patients suffering with male and female pattern baldness, diffuse thinning, alopecia, scar concealments and even cancer patients, providing the bridge between hair loss and regrowth.
HOW IS THE SMP AFTERCARE?
To avoid excessive fading and any form of contamination, make sure you follow our 4-day post-treatment guidelines. For the first four days avoid refrain from touching, washing, or trimming your hair. Also, avoid any activities that cause you to sweat profusely, as excessive sweat can make the pigments look blotchy and ruin the appearance of your treatment. You may put on a cap immediately following each treatment if desired. But there is no need to be concerned about sleeping on it, because the color will not smear or smear on your pillows.
DOES SCALP PIGMENTATION REQUIRE ANY LONG TERM MAINTENANCE?
We recommend scheduling a review visit once a year so that we can assess your results and provide upkeep recommendations. On average, we see clients for re-darkening appointments every 3-4 years. Several factors influence how effectively someone holds their results. They include how quickly their cellular metabolism fades the pigment, how much sun their scalp receives, whether their skin is greasy, medications, and other hair loss therapies used in conjunction with SMP. Skin that is aged, has severe hair loss, is dry, and has SPF applied tends to hold results better for longer.
