HOW DOES RADIOSURGERY WORK?
Radiosurgery is a type of surgery that uses ionizing radiation to eliminate specific areas of tissue instead of excision with a blade. This technology is frequently used to treat a wide range of soft tissue conditions in the skin and deeper tissues. Moles, skin tags, warts, papules, brown spots, solar keratoses, and other growths on the face and body can be removed quickly with radiosurgery. This technique is becoming increasingly popular, especially because it allows for scar-free healing and requires little aftercare.
WHAT TAKES PLACE DURING THE PROCEDURE?
The lesion/mole/wart site is first cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a small amount of anesthetic is injected. The lesion/mole/wart is then removed painlessly with a radiosurgery electrode. During the procedure, the treated area will be cauterized as the lesion is removed. This allows it to be free of bleeding and ready to be handled with a triple antibiotic ointment and a bandage right away.
IS THERE ANY SPECIAL AFTERCARE REQUIRED?
You will be asked to keep the treated area clean and free of contaminants after your procedure until the wound has scabbed over. Cleaning the wound with mild soap and water, applying the triple antibiotic ointment, and applying a band-aid 1-2 times per day for up to 4 days is all that is required for aftercare maintenance. The scab will naturally fall off within 7 to 10 days, revealing the new, healing skin beneath, which is usually pink in color. Over the next 6 to 8 weeks, it will gradually begin to match the surrounding skin.
IS RADIO SURGICAL MOLE REMOVAL EXPENSIVE?
Radiosurgery removal costs start at $350 for a single mole. However, if you choose to have additional skin lesions removed during the same treatment session, the cost will be around $550 for two moles, $700 for three moles, and so on. If a histology examination is required, there may be additional charges per lesion.
