WHAT IS MASSETER BOTOX?

The masseter is a muscle on the side of your face that aids in chewing and speaking. It is the bone that connects your cheekbone to your lower jawbone. Masseter Botox or Jaw Botox refers to the procedure in which Botox is injected into the masseter. In order to temporarily stop the masseter muscle from contracting, the treatment uses botulinum toxin to block nerve signals in the muscle. Masseter Botox is commonly used to relieve jaw tension and prevent grinding, clenching, and headaches. However, it is also a popular cosmetic procedure for contouring a square jaw and creating a more balanced facial shape.

HOW MANY BOTOX TREATMENTS DOES IT TAKE?

Each patient is unique, as are their facial structures and treatment goals. Although results vary greatly from person to person, most patients notice significant benefits from a single Botox treatment for jaw reduction. The actual number of Botox units required varies from patient to patient, but a single session usually involves around 25 units of Botox.

WHAT ARE THE KNOWN RISKS AND SIDE EFFECTS?

Jaw Reduction, like most Botox procedures, has a relatively short recovery period. You may experience mild pain or swelling after your treatment, as well as bruising and redness at the injection site. However, just a cold compress or over-the-counter pain reliever can treat all of these symptoms. Localized bruising and headaches are possible side effects, though they are extremely rare. Notably, Botox treatments for jawline slimming are not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.
