FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK FOR MIGRAINES?
The only botulinum toxin product proven effective for migraine or headache treatment is BOTOX®. This is due to Botox's ability to successfully block the small nerves that carry pain from the head to the brain, thereby reducing the amount of chemicals released from nerve endings. As a result, it not only lessens nervous system stress but also shields the body from migraines in the first place. Even if headaches do occur from this point forward, they will almost certainly be milder.
IS IT PAINFUL TO GET BOTOX FOR MIGRAINES?
The injections are performed with a very small and very sharp needle, so the procedure is not particularly painful. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately following treatment. You can anticipate experiencing a momentary burning sensation at the injection site, but a skilled injector shouldn't need more than 10-15 minutes to complete the procedure. Consequently, the whole procedure is usually tolerated well.
HOW FREQUENTLY WILL I NEED BOTOX INJECTIONS?
Generally speaking, migraine BOTOX treatments take about 10 minutes per session and are required every 3 months. Your treatment plan will most likely begin with two treatments spaced 12 weeks apart to assess how well BOTOX is working for you. Following that, you and your doctor will discuss and adjust your treatment plan based on your personal progress.
IS IT EXPENSIVE?
The total cost of Botox-A therapy can vary greatly depending on location, medical practice, and the number of units required for your specific treatment plan. Currently , you can expect to pay $525 for up to 40 units at StudioMD, and $13 per unit after that. You should be aware that some insurance companies (such as Medicare and Medicaid) may "cover" the treatment, leaving you to pay only a co-pay. However, you will need to have a pre-certification for that.
DOES IT HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Botox does have potential side effects, though they are relatively rare. In clinical trials, the most common side effect was neck pain, which was reported by 9% of those who used BOTOX®. Other less common side effects included headache, migraine, slight or partial facial paralysis, drooping eyelids, bronchitis, musculoskeletal stiffness, muscular weakness, muscle pain, musculoskeletal pain, muscle spasms, injection site pain, and high blood pressure.
WHERE CAN I GET BOTOX FOR MIGRAINES IN QUEENS?
Migraine is a complex problem that can cause several uncomfortable side effects. If you have tried most options and are still suffering from regular migraines you may want to consider Botox. At StudioMD Medical Aesthetics & Wellness Centers, we have extensive experience in creating custom Botox treatment plans to ensure optimal results that stop chronic migraines, but also give you natural results in the process.
