FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?
Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) was designed as both a cosmetic treatment for men and women who are experiencing various types of hair loss, and as a medical procedure to help conceal scars, burns, birthmarks, and the full spectrum of alopecia. SMP can be used as an non-invasive alternative to traditional hair transplant surgery, hair systems, tablets, and fibers. During the SMP treatment, a custom blend of pigments is placed into the dermal layer of the scalp's skin. These deposits give an exceptionally lifelike image of hair follicles.
HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?
Your new SMP look can last for eight to fifteen years or more if you take good care of it, including applying enough sunscreen whenever you're outside. If you spend a lot of time outside or have a strong immune system, the procedure may need to be redone sooner. We can't tell when you'll need a touch-up in the future based on your initial treatment because every metabolism is different. Fortunately, most touch-up rates are less expensive than the standard treatment fees.
WHAT TYPE OF PIGMENT DOES SMP USES?
To match the gray scale required by the majority of our clients, most of our pigments contain a blend of metal oxides. Beta carotene supplements are also employed in some circumstances when clients have very light or red hair. Rest assured our practitioners are very skilled and experienced when it comes to refining and customizing the best SMP treatment that blends perfectly with your skin tone and existing hair.
DO I NEED TO SHAVE MY HEAD BEFORE THE PROCEDURE?
In most circumstances, yes. You'll likely need to shave your hair with a hair clipper, facial shaver, or a razor for a typical SMP treatment. In fact, we recommend shaving your hair at a 0.5-grade length or shorter to ensure that your treatment looks natural. But you can always try out different shaving routines to see what looks and works best for you.
IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION PAINFUL?
The intensity of pain varies from person to person. While some patients have fallen asleep during the procedure, others reported pain across the temples or above the ears during treatment. Overall, most of our patients assess their pain on a scale of one to 10 as three to five. To help with any pain concerns, we typically apply local anesthetic numbing cream directly on your scalp one hour before treatment.
