FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS RADIOSURGERY?
Radiosurgery is a type of surgery that uses radiation to eliminate selected areas of tissue using ionizing radiation, rather than excision with a blade. This technology is often used to treat a variety of soft tissue conditions, both in the skin and deeper tissues. Radiosurgery allows a prompt removal of lesions like moles, skin tags, warts, papules, brown spots, solar keratoses and other growths on the face and body. The use of this technique has been increasingly sought after, especially because it allows a scar-free healing process and very little aftercare.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE MOLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE?
The mole site is first prepped with isopropyl alcohol and injected with a small amount of anesthetic. Then the lesion/mole is painlessly removed using a radio-surgery electrode. The treated area will be cauterized as the lesion is being removed during the procedure. This allows it to be free of bleeding and fit to be cared for with a triple antibiotic ointment and a bandage immediately afterwards.
HOW IS THE AFTERCARE OF A RADIOSURGERY?
Following your procedure, you will be asked to keep the treated area clean and free of contaminants until the wound has scabbed over. The aftercare maintenance is done by simply cleaning the wound with mild soap and water, applying the triple antibiotic ointment, and a band-aid 1-2 times a day for up to 4 days. The scab will fall off naturally within 7 to 10 days, to reveal the new, healing skin underneath, which is usually pink in color. From this point on it’ll gradually start to match the surrounding skin over the next 6 to 8 weeks.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF RADIO SURGICAL MOLE REMOVAL?
Overall, radiosurgery removal prices start at $250 for a single mole. But if you decide to remove additional skin lesions at the same treatment session, the price will be around $450 for two moles, $600 for three moles and so on. There can be additional costs per lesion, if a histology examination is needed.
Very small lesions and multiple skin tags can be removed at an even greater discount, typically around $100-250 depending on size. At StudioMD New Jersey we offer complimentary consultations to set up a Radiosurgery treatment plan that will suit not only your goals, but also your budget.
IS RADIOSURGERY THE RIGHT PROCEDURE FOR ME?
Radiosurgery is great treatment for all of those who can physically and emotionally benefit from having their mole removed. But you should have a good understanding of the limitations that all cosmetic procedures carry. Radiosurgery is meant for improvement, not perfection and is important to have realistic goals and expectations about mole removal.
