WHAT IS NG YAG LASER TREATMENT?
The Nd YAG is a laser treatment designed to reduce wrinkles, scars, and skin discolorations. It works by resurfacing the skin, so it doesn't require any cuts or incisions on the top layer of the skin. The Nd YAG laser is considered a non-invasive and “non-ablative” treatment that effectively fades away spider and red capillary veins.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LASER VEIN TREATMENT?
Spider veins do not cause any symptoms, so they are considered a cosmetic concern only. But patients should always be evaluated before engaging in laser therapy. Mostly to ensure that they do not have varicose veins. While laser therapy is very effective for the very small spider veins, it should not be used to treat large varicose veins.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
The number of sessions required depends significantly on the desired degree of blood vessel reduction and the condition of the area being treated. You should also inform your doctor about your hormonal status and possible medications that might increase superficial blood vessel growth. Most patients typically only need 1 to 3 laser sessions to see considerable improvement of their spider veins. Overall, sessions are done every 6 weeks on the face, and every 2-3 months on the legs.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
In most cases, the treatment doesn't require any “downtime”, but you can expect the treated area to appear darker or even bruised for a week on the face, and for up to 3 weeks on the body, post treatment. During this time, your body will gradually absorb the blood from the vein, leaving your skin clear. Typically the darkened veins do not feel painful after the treatment and can be covered with makeup if necessary.
IS IT PAINFUL TO GET LASER VEIN REMOVAL?
As with all treatments, it depends on each patient’s pain tolerance and sensitivity around the area being treated. At StudioMD, we use the Nd YAG laser technology, which has an additional cooling device designed to decrease discomfort during treatment. But take comfort in knowing that most people find laser vein removal a very tolerable experience.
