FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES FRAXEL WORK?
Fraxel is a light-based laser treatment designer to stimulate collagen and elastin production, in order to restore a more youthful look.
It works with an ablative laser light penetrating deep into the dermal layer, reaching thousands of microscopic treatment zones (MTZ’s). This laser incentiment will eventually carry out more collagen to your face, delivering an improved skin texture, with a more even tone and smoother feel.
And the best about it: Fraxel only involves minimal risks with no discomfort or prolonged downtime.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN FRAXEL TREAT?
Fraxel allows a flexible approach depending on which area you would like to improve or treat. At StudioMD your customized treatment plan will specify the better laser density for each area or condition treated, and offer a mix of Fraxel lasers that can be combined for better results.
• Overall, Fraxel can help with:
• Acne scarring, particularly atrophic acne scars;
• Skin rejuvenation;
• Mild wrinkles;
• Age spots;
• Flat age spots;
• Sun damage and solar keratosis;
• Chest and neck rejuvenation;
• Overall superficial pigmentation;
• Melasma.
HOW MANY FRAXEL TREATMENTS WILL I NEEDED?
It’s very unlikely to have a single session Fraxel treatment. Overall, for post-surgical scar minimisation, most patients need from 3 to 5 sessions. The time between treatments can vary depending on your reaction to the treatment, but is usually between 3 and 8 weeks.
In solar keratosis and skin rejuvenation treatments, it’s estimated that each session replaces about 15-20% of the sun-damaged, scarred or wrinkled skin.
But, there’s no one-fits-all approach with Fraxel. The total number of sessions of your treatment will depend on your body's healing process, on your skin colour, and the current condition of your skin.
DOES FRAXEL WORK ON DARK SKIN?
Unlike most laser skin treatments, Fraxel Laser can be safely used to treat conditions on all skin tones. Fractionated lasers, like Fraxel, trigger inflammation in little spots throughout the skin, rather than evenly covering the entire surface area. So there’s very little risk of skin darkening. Just keep in mind that darker skin patients will need more treatment sessions than fair skin patients.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE-EFFECTS?
When safety protocols are followed, Fraxel is a very safe and clinically proven treatment. Yet, there is always some risk of developing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with Fraxel treatments.
On the bright side, this unlikely side effect can be mitigated with proper prepping, aftercare and especially by limiting your sun exposure for 2-5 days after treatment.
