Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DOES THERMAGE DO?
Thermage is a non-invasive procedure designed to tighten and contour the skin, and tackle sagging skin caused by age, weight loss, children and other determining factors.
Thermage technology applies radiofrequency energy into specific areas to power up your body’s own collagen renewal process. Radiofrequency can cause collagen fibres to contract while heating the deep layers of the skin. This process instantly improves the appearance of sagging or loose skin, giving you a more smoother, firmer and younger look. Unparalleled, Thermage works in a single treatment with no downtime and delivers a natural result.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF THERMAGE?
Since it doesn't affect the outer layers of the skin, there are only minimal side effects or risks associated with Thermage. You can expect to experience some mild swelling or redness after the procedure, but all these symptoms should subside within 48 hours.
Even though Thermage is considered safe during breastfeeding, due to the radio wave technology it is not recommended for pregnant women.
WHEN WILL I START TO SEE RESULTS WITH THERMAGE?
The production of new collagen, expected with Thermage, only takes place over 2-3 months after treatment, gradually reaching maximum results in about 6 months later.
Although the treatment process can and will produce new collagen inside your skin, your own natural ageing process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE PRE AND POST TREATMENT?
There are no special requirements with Thermage and you get to continue on with your makeup routine and exercise regimen after treatment.
The only recommendation is that you use sunscreen, with SPF 30 or above, daily to prevent sun damage to the skin during the first few weeks post treatment. Also, keep in mind that Thermage cannot be performed within 4 weeks before or after having anti-wrinkle injections.
HOW IS THERMAGE DIFFERENT TO LASER TREATMENTS?
Choosing the right skin tightening treatment for you will depend on how loose your skin has become, your comfort level with either laser or injections, and your tolerance for each procedure’s side effects.
Overall, Thermage is better at treating wrinkles and bulges. But, since it uses radiofrequency energy, it requires an increased amount of energy to reach to the desired depths in order to deliver good results in little time. And that can make it less pleasant than other skin tightening treatments available.
