FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE PDO THREADS?
PDO (polydioxanone) Threads are small bioresorbable threads that are placed just beneath the skin's surface to provide subtle lift and tightening where your skin has sagged with age. They also stimulate collagen regeneration in your skin, providing long-term anti-aging benefits. The procedure is non-surgical, FDA approved and uses very small, flexible cannulae. Polydioxanone is a biodegradable substance that the body can safely absorb over time. For about 30 years, it has been safely used in cardiovascular and orthopedic surgeries.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH PDO THREADS TREATMENTS?
The most common side effects of PDO mono threads are swelling and bruising after the procedure. But there is almost no recovery time required, and most patients can usually resume their normal daily activities almost immediately.

The side effects of PDO cog threads are mild to moderate, and also include swelling, and bruising following treatment. Tightness is a common sensation and skin dimpling can occur, especially if there is a lot of sagging to be corrected. But these side effects usually go away on their own after a few days to a few weeks.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A THREAD LIFT?
PDO threads are an excellent choice for patients who want an anti-aging treatment that will lift and firm their face but are unable or unwilling to undergo a more invasive surgical facelift. PDO threads should not be considered a complete replacement for a facelift, which provides more drastic and long-lasting results, but they do provide some of the same benefits. In fact, PDO threads are sometimes referred to as a liquid facelift or a non-surgical facelift.
ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
After your procedure, you should notice some initial firming and lifting, with your thread lift face results continuing to take shape over the next three weeks or so. Your tightened, lifted results should continue to improve over the next few months as your body begins to naturally produce collagen. However, many patients are curious about how long thread lift results last. Typically, you can enjoy your new, revitalized appearance for 12 to 18 months. At StudioMD we will create a custom treatment plan based on your cosmetic goals and advise you on how frequently he recommends touch-up treatments as well as complementary aesthetic treatments such as injectable dermal fillers.
IS THERE ANY PREPARATION BEFORE A THREAD LIFT TREATMENT?
During consultation you should always inform your doctor of any previous treatments you have received as well as any medications you are currently taking. Within 48 hours of treatment, you shouldn't take any anticoagulant such as aspirin or warfarin, anti-inflammatory medications, or consume alcohol. Other prescribed drugs can be continued, but supplements such as evening primrose oil, vitamin D, A and E, fish oils, flaxseed oil, Magnesium, garlic, and Ginkgo should be discontinued prior to the procedure. Moreover, you should avoid wearing makeup or using harsh beauty products on the day of your appointment.
