FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS TMJ MASSETER BOTOX?
Muscle tension and soreness are frequently the root causes of TMJ symptoms, leading to pain or stiffness in the jaw and surrounding area. This can happen as a result of overusing the muscles or being under stress, which prevents the muscles from relaxing. Botox® injections can be given directly to these muscles to deliver the botulinum neurotoxin and force them to relax. The muscles around the temporomandibular joint will be able to relax within a few days of treatment, causing many patients to experience a quick relief of TMJ symptoms. By giving the muscles a break from daily stress and tension, this can help treat TMJ symptoms as well as prevent them from getting worse.
CAN I GET A MORE FEMININE JAWLINE WITH TMJ BOTOX?
Botox has proven to be an effective treatment for the symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder. But frequently those who clench or grind their teeth also develop a jawline that begins to look more masculine. When we regularly chew gum, grind our teeth, or clench our jaws, the masseter muscle may become chronically contracted and enlarged, giving the jawline a square, masculine appearance. In order to correct this, Botox or Dysport can be used to achieve a more feminine facial aesthetic in people with an oval or V-shaped face..
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
If you have already tried other TMJ treatment options, such as medications and night guards, without success and are still experiencing involuntary bruxism, jaw pain, and muscle tightness, Botox injections may be very helpful for you.
IS TMJ MASSETER BOTOX SAFE?
Every year, millions of patients are successfully treated with the neuromodulator Botox Cosmetic, which has a 20-year safety track record. Botox safely provides significant relief from jaw tension, headaches, and other symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint disorders, and it has been approved by the ADA (American Dental Association) for this purpose.
WILL I GET BRUISES OR BUMPS AFTERWARDS?
Botox injections don't usually result in bruising. Avoid caffeine, ibuprofen, and alcohol if you think you might be getting a bruise because they can make it worse! To hasten healing, try applying ice or taking an Arnica tablet. Small bumps, on the other hand, are completely normal and should go away within 30 minutes of injection. Sometimes a bump, frequently found around the injection site, can last for a day or two. Likewise, we encourage you to try icing the affected area.
IS TMJ MASSETER BOTOX EXPENSIVE?
Costs vary depending on the needs, intends, and goals of each patient. Large masseter muscles typically require between 40 and 100 units. The number of units varies significantly because each patient is different. We will advise you on what will work best for you during your consultation. Botox is priced per unit. At StudioMD prices are currently $495 for the first 40 units and $12 per unit after that. Keep in mind that our goal is natural results, so we always start patients on a lower dose protocol to begin with.
