WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS MADE OF?

Essentially, dermal fillers are biodegradable gels based on substances naturally found in human cells. For that reason they tend to be well tolerated when injected into our bodies and don’t require allergy testing. But rest assured that dermal fillers are manufactured under strict sterile conditions using recombinant gene technology.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAL FILLER?

Our skin and facial complexion change with age and dermal fillers allow patients to control this process more subtly over time. Unlike other cosmetic treatments, dermal filler injections allow a more natural looking result that doesn’t alter your facial expression. Additionally the results from a single session can be seen instantly and last for up to 6 months.

DO DERMAL FILLERS HURT?

During the procedure you may feel a slight pinch and experience a pressured or ‘stinging’ sensation, as the dermal filler is being injected. Pain tolerance is a very individual and subjective thing and it all comes down to your own sensitivity in the treatment area. Speak to your doctor if you have any concerns or may require anesthetics during treatment.

HOW IS THE AFTERCARE OF DERMAL FILLER TREATMENTS?

It is important to note that injectable treatments come with important and very individual aftercare recommendations in order to achieve the best results. But some post-treatment recommendations are universal:

• Remain upright for four hours following your treatment while the product settles into place;

• Avoid active skincare products for at least 5 days following your treatment;

• Avoid alcohol and painkillers before and after treatment as they can make you prone to bruising;

• Do not exercise for 24 hours after your treatment as the Dermal Filler is still settling into place;

• Avoid exposing your skin to excessive heat or cold including saunas, spas, and steam rooms;

• Avoid massaging or pressuring your face, as it can affect how the product settles in the area.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS AFTER HAVING DERMAL FILLERS?

The most common side effects of dermal fillers usually occur within 24 hours post-treatment. They can include swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness, and should disappear within a few days. However, depending on the type of Dermal Filler used, it can take up to a couple weeks. It is always advisable to check any distress in the follow-up review appointment.
