FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION (SMP)?
Scalp Micropigmentation is a quick and minimally invasive treatment for hair loss in both men and women, covering a wide range of conditions, from receding hairline to covering scars from an injury. SMP, also known as scalp tattooing or hair tattoo, involves applying a specialized pigment to the scalp that replicates the look of tiny hairs. When delivered by a highly skilled artist, SMP can conceal hair loss by carefully replicating hair follicles and creating the appearance of a full head of hair.
WILL THE RESULTS LOOK NATURAL?
Scalp Micropigmentation results look very natural indeed. At StudioMD we work with specialized pigments and equipment that aim to replicate the appearance of your natural hair follicles. May your treatment goal be density, shaven look or scar camouflage, our practitioners are highly skilled in color matching the SMP pigment to your existing hair and skin tone, tailoring the procedure to suit your desired outcome.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
Most patients required around 2 to 4 sessions to achieve optimal results. It is important to keep in mind that your new 'hair' won't look its best after only one session. Because the first session goal is to ‘build’ the density, while the second and the third session focus on the ‘feathering’ and ‘definition’ aspect of the procedure. Only then you’ll be able to experience the confidence boost associated with SMP results. Despite how many sessions your treatment entails we recommend waiting at least 10 days between sessions to allow for adequate healing and pigment settlement.
DO I NEED TO SHAVE MY HEAD FOR SMP?
Whether you need to shave or partially shave your head will depend on your hairstyle and desired outcome. Because while you have to shave your head for a full scalp tattoo (total SMP), you won't likely need to shave it all for procedures like touch-ups for a hairline repair or increasing density.
IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION PERMANENT?
Scalp Micropigmentation is known for its long-lasting results. However, just like traditional tattoos, a scalp hair tattoo can also be removed using lasers. Scalp Micropigmentation treatments, in fact, are easier to erase than regular tattoos. When pigmentation is placed to the correct depth (two layers down the skin), it can be effectively removed in one or a few laser treatments.
