FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES A PDO THREAD LIFT WORKS?
PDO threads provide immediate support for a sagging facial skin, while stimulating long-term healing and renewal. The threads can also trigger the skin to produce more collagen, which plumps and firms the face over time, giving patients a refreshed, lifted appearance. The threads are made of polydioxanone, a surgical suture material that dissolves naturally after six months. During the procedure they are inserted with a hypodermic needle that slides along the skin's surface, leaving a thread of polydioxanone in its path. As soon as the threads are placed, patients notice an immediate firming.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?
Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed and numbed, and we may draw some guidelines on it that we will follow when administering the injection. But there isn't much more preparation required for PDO threads. The treatment is much easier and less invasive than surgical options, which involve incisions, tissue removal and manipulation, and a period of recovery. Most patients who have PDO threads injected resume their regular routines immediately. PDO thread appointments are typically no more than an hour long.
ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
You should notice some initial firming and lifting right after your procedure, with your thread lift face results continuing to take shape over the next three weeks or so. The tightened, lifted effects will keep getting better over the coming few months as your body starts to naturally produce collagen. Typically, you can enjoy the full results of your new, revitalized appearance for 12 to 18 months. At StudioMD we will create a custom treatment plan based on your cosmetic goals and advise you on how often you may need touch-up treatments.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE LIKE?
Because PDO thread lifts are minimally invasive, there is very little aftercare required. However, there are some post-treatment care recommendations for the best thread lift results, including:
- Patients should sleep on their backs for the first two weeks after treatment to avoid putting too much pressure on one side of their face.
- Patients should avoid keeping their mouths open for long periods of time, as this may affect the thread lift results. With that in mind, it is best that you avoid scheduling dental appointments for the first two weeks after treatment.
ARE THREAD FACE LIFT TREATMENTS SAFE?
Overall, thread lifting is not regarded as a particularly high-risk procedure, especially when compared to surgical alternatives. After a thread lift, there is almost no risk of developing scars, suffering from severe bruising, bleeding, or experiencing other complications. In rare cases, patients may experience irritation, infection, or their sutures becoming visible under their skin.
