WHAT IS SMP?

Scalp Micropigmentation (sometimes called a hair tattoo, hair pigmentation, or SMP for short) is a type of cosmetic tattooing that gives the illusion of hair follicles to men and women who experience hair loss. Whether you're concerned about thinning hair, have male or female pattern baldness, or just want to recreate your hairline with a buzz cut, Scalp Micropigmentation may help you change the look of your head for the better.

ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?

Yes, Scalp MicroPigmentation is a medical-grade permanent tattoo that is similar to permanent makeup or a regular tattoo. And just like traditional tattoos, the SMP pigment will fade with time. To avoid early fading, we recommend using sunscreen and avoiding prolonged sun exposure.

CAN SMP HIDE SCARS?

Yes. Hair transplant scars are very common in those who have had previous hair transplants. Scars may show as a line across the donor area or as spots where hair follicles were extracted. If you plan to wear your hair in a buzz cut, SMP® can help to conceal these scars. By merging the scar with the surrounding hair, it becomes much harder to notice, and in most cases, even undetectable.

HOW LONG DOES THE SMP PROCEDURE TAKE?

The average human head contains over 2000 follicles per square inch. It's not surprising, then, that it normally takes 3 hours per session and a minimum of 3 sessions to create the desired look on a mostly bald head. During the first session, we use a lighter pigment as part of our meticulous, results-oriented approach. Session 2 involves fine-tuning to achieve the right match, as well as adding density and the necessary blend to your remaining hair. Finally, the third session focuses on perfecting the look and adding detail.

DOES IT HURT TO GET SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION?

Pain is subjective to the individual. While some clients have occasionally fallen asleep during procedure, others people experience pain across their temples or above their ears during treatment. Overall, most of our patients rate their discomfort as 3-5 on a scale of 1-10.
