WHAT IS TMJ?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects your lower jaw (or mandible) to your skull. It allows your jaw to open and close and enables you to speak and to eat. The abbreviation “TMJ” is commonly used to refer to a group of health conditions related to your jaw, including disorders that can cause:
  • tenderness at the joint;
  • facial pain;
  • difficulty moving the joint.
    • WHAT IS MASSETER BOTOX?
    The masseter muscle is a facial muscle that plays a major role in the chewing of solid foods. Masseter Botox or Jaw Botox treatment involves injecting botulinum toxin to block nerve signals in the masseter, preventing the muscle to move temporarily. This procedure was designed to reduce jaw tension, preventing grinding, clenching and even headaches. But it is also a very popular procedure for cosmetic enhancement, like contouring a square jaw and creating a more balanced facial shape.
    HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
    Although the actual number of botox units required will also vary significantly from person to person, most patients usually need around 25 units of Botox for a single session of Jaw Reduction. But each patient is different and so will be their treatment plan. At StudioMD we offer complimentary initial consultations to better assess your unique features and desired goals. After this consultation, we will be able to provide you with more information about the particularities of your Jaw Reduction treatment.
    ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS/RISKS?
    As it goes with most procedures involving Botox, you may experience some mild pain or swelling, or even bruising and redness around the injection sites. But all these symptoms are expected to be mild and temporary. They can also be alleviated by using a cold compress or taking over-the-counter pain relief. Additional side effects are more uncommon, but can include local bruising and headaches. It is important to note that anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should not have jawline slimming treatments with Botox, as the potential risks have not yet been fully researched.
    HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SHOW RESULTS?
    A Jaw Reduction Treatment with Botox injections can take up to 8 weeks to show its full effect. Between 6 to 8 weeks after the procedure, we’ll see you for a review appointment and have your results assessed at this point. But, you should be able to notice some improvement in moderate to severe lines around 3 to 10 days following the treatment. The effect on these lines will continue to improve for up to a month, and the results can last up to 4 months after that.
