FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY DO I HAVE RAZOR BUMPS?
Razor bumps often occur when hair is shaved but a short sharp stump is left behind. When it grows back, it curls inwards and its tip punctures, re-entering the skin. Your body then assumes that this is a foreign object and attacks it. With that response, irritation and sometimes inflammation take place. Beyond an aesthetic inconvenience, ingrown hairs can become a serious health problem, leading to bleeding and permanent scarring of the skin.
IS LASER REMOVAL THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF INGROWN HAIRS?
Laser hair removal is not only the best, but also the most effective way of getting rid of ingrown hairs permanently. Because laser hair removal goes straight to the source of the problem, the root of the hair follicle. When the laser hits the follicle directly, it burns away the follicle’s ability to produce hair, putting an end to irritation, pain, infection, and further damage to your skin.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE RESULTS?
The results of laser hair removal really come down to each patient’s individual response to the treatment. But, as a referente, most people require:
- from 6 to 12 sessions for hair removal in the Face - one of the most difficult areas to treat, due to hair being finer and more abundant;
- from 6 to 10 sessions for hair removal in the Bikini and Underarm areas - labia is also one of the most difficult areas to treat, due to skin color being darker;
- from 6 to 10 sessions for hair removal in the legs and arms - knees and upper thighs can take longer, due to thick skin on knees and finer hairs on thighs;
- from 12 to 15 sessions in the back or chest areas - it takes longer, due to hair being very strong, coarse and more resilient to lasers.
AM I GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE TREATMENT?
Despite great advances in laser hair removal technology, it is still not very effective on white, gray, red or light blond hair. If that is your case, it may not be the right treatment for you. Pregnant women should also avoid laser treatment until after they've given birth. And patients who are experiencing PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) can expect some results from laser treatments, but to remain hair free on the face more treatments will likely be needed throughout life due the hormonal changes that may activate new hair follicles.
IS IT PAINFUL TO TREAT INGROWN HAIRS WITH LASER?
Everyone has a different paint tolerance but most patients find laser hair removal to be very tolerable. Every StudioMD laser has a built in cooling system, which tremendously helps with the pain making the treatment more safe & comfortable. Many clients even say that waxing is far more painful than a laser hair removal session.
