FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT EXACTLY IS FUE AND FUT HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
First of all, let’s understand that in a hair loss process it is not the skin of your scalp that is balding, it is your hair follicles in that area that are weak. Hair Transplants were designed to move permanent and healthy hair follicles from the back of your head into the thin zone that needs it. The relocated hair will then grow and naturally remain permanent in these areas.
The FUE technique stands for Follicular Unit Extraction and involves follicle removal one unit at a time with no cutting, no stitches, no line scar and minimal or no pain afterwards. On the other hand, FUT stands for Follicular Unit Transplant, a more traditional type of hair transplant in which a strip of skin containing the hair is removed from this strip under a microscope and stitched closed in the new site.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY?
Hair Transplant treatments are indicated to men and women who are in good health and have no impediments to surgical procedures. But it is important to note that both FUE and FUT hair transplants will only work for those experiencing hair loss on the top of the head, near the front of the hairline or in the crown. Patients should also have good thick hair in the back of the head or other healthy donor area, so greater hair density can be restored in the thinning zone.
HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Following your FUE or FUT procedure, the transplanted hair will become dormant for up to 4 months. A period known as the Telogen phase. As the transplanted hair begins to grow in the Anagen phase, you’ll be able to see the full effect of your hair transplant. This will likely happen between 9-12 months after the procedure.
We understand it is a long wait, but on the bright side the results will be permanent and definitely very natural looking. One more reason to take into account the experience and aesthetic eye of your hair transplant surgeon.
HOW LONG IS THE DURATION OF THE FUE PROCEDURE?
RBetween patient preparation, local anesthetic, extraction and implantation of about 2000 grafts, the whole procedure can take anywhere between six to eight hours. You’ll be awake and able to watch a movie or work on your laptop during this time. And you’ll be given a short break halfway through the procedure, to either go to the toilet, have a drink and eat lunch. Despite being lengthy, there is minimal pain and discomfort associated with hair transplant. Most patients are often pleasantly surprised with how smooth the procedure actually is.
DOES DONOR HAIR GROW BACK?
Unfortunately it doesn’t. The donor hair does not grow back because the whole hair follicle, containing the hair root, is removed to be transplanted. And without the root, it can never regrow. This is the exact reason why seeing a very experienced doctor is vital. Not only to deliver a final result that will not only look good from all angles, but also regard the supply and demand of your hair for your whole life.
