HOW DOES FRAXEL SKIN RESURFACING WORK?
Fraxel is a light-based laser treatment that stimulates collagen and elastin production, to restore your skin and give you a more youthful look. It involves an ablative laser light that can penetrate deep into the dermal layer for your skin, reaching thousands of microscopic treatment zones (MTZ’s). The ablative light helps carry out more collagen to your face, eventually promoting an improved skin texture, with a more even tone and smoother feel. Remarkably, Fraxel treatments have minimal risks with no discomfort or prolonged downtime.
CAN FRAXEL HELP WITH ACNE SCARS?
First and foremost, it is important to understand that every type of acne scar has a particular solution that is best fitted for that type of scar. Fraxel Skin Resurfacing can be a fantastic treatment choice for rolling, atrophic and mixed acne scars. On the other hand, depressed scars and tethered- anchored scars will respond better to subcision treatments. As will deep ice pick scars respond better to chemical peels. HOW MANY FRAXEL TREATMENTS WILL I NEEDED?
There’s no one-fits-all approach with Fraxel. The total number of sessions of your treatment will depend on your body's healing process, pigmentation, and overall skin health. Most people usually require more than one session with Fraxel Skin Resurfacing. In post-surgical scar minimisation, patients need from 3 to 5 sessions. The time between treatments can vary depending on your reaction to the treatment, but is usually between 3 and 8 weeks. In solar keratosis and skin rejuvenation treatments, each session typically replaces about 15-20% of the sun-damaged, scarred or wrinkled skin.
IS FRAXEL SKIN RESURFACING PAINFUL?
When compared to most laser treatments, Fraxel is one of the least painful procedures available. In case you are nervous about this topic, take comfort in knowing that this procedure can be done under partial sedation. A topical anesthetic when applied before treatment with Fraxel laser definitely minimizes any possible discomfort you may experience during the procedure. Treatments with sedation involved generally take around one hour: 30 minutes for the topical anesthetic to take effect and then 20-30 minutes for the treatment itself.
DOES FRAXEL WORK ON DARKER SKIN TONES?
Unlike most laser skin treatments, Fraxel Laser can be safely used on all skin tones. Mostly because fractionated lasers - such as Fraxel Skin Resurfacing - trigger inflammation in little spots throughout the skin, rather than evenly covering the entire surface area. So there’s very little risk of skin darkening. But keep in mind that darker skin patients will likely need more treatment sessions than fair skin patients.
