HOW DOES NAIL FUNGUS TREATMENT WORK?

Nail fungus, also called onychomycosis, is a common condition estimated to affect up to 10% of the population worldwide. It can cause nails to become yellow or discolored. As the infection advances the nail can become thick, brittle and separate from the nail bed. It can also cause pain when wearing shoes or walking.
WHAT IS LASER GENESIS?
Genesis is a Nd:YAG 1064nm laser that has a safe and effective solution for the treatment of nail infection (onychomycosis), more commonly known as toenail fungus.
WHAT CAUSES NAIL INFECTION?
Dermatophytes are the fungi most commonly responsible for causing this condition. They are specialized organisms that live off of keratin which is the main component of nails and skin. The most common fungi that cause nail infection disease are Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Candida albicans. Everyone is at risk for infection because fungus is present everywhere in the environment.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF NAIL INFECTION?
You may be suffering from nail infection (onychomycosis) if you have one or more of the following symptoms:
Discolored nails
Yellow streaks under the nail
Distorted or thickened nails
Brittle, crumbly or ragged nail
Nails separated from the underlying skin
Buildup of debris (nail fragments, skin) under the nail
White spots or streaks on the nail surface
IS THE LASER TREATMENT IS PAINFUL?
The laser light beam does not harm the nail or surrounding skin. While some patients may experience mild discomfort from the heat the laser generates, usually the treatment is painless, and there is never a need for anesthesia.

On average, our appointments last less than an hour and the vast majority of our patients require only one treatment. Whether you have one nail with fungus or more, our doctors will carefully treat all ten toe nails to ensure that pathogens are vaporized. As you may know, oral medication available today for treating toenail fungus carries with it possible serious health risks (commonly the liver and kidneys). CAN I WALK AFTER THE TREATMENT?
Yes - the treatment does not harm you in any way. You will be able to put on your shoes and walk out of the office, just as well as you walked in. You can wear shoes and pedicures are not prohibited after laser treatment.*
IS THE TREATMENT EXPENSIVE?
Nail fungus treatment and toenail fungus treatment are considered aesthetic and therefore is not covered by insurance plans; however treatment is affordable. The cost for many patients is LESS expensive than prescription medications they have tried in the past, often without success.
