If you are wondering about this latest trend of liposuction called SmartLipo, how it works, and what you can expect from it, look no further: we have all the answers here.
What is SmartLipo Treatment?
SmartLipo is the evolution of liposuction, using laser technology to make it easier for fat removal. It is a minimally invasive technique, designed to break fat tissue resulting in more firm and smooth skin. Although very similar to traditional liposuction, the laser procedure creates a better silhouette contour due to the laser’s stimulation of collagen production by the skin. This protein tightens the skin as it becomes smoother.
The SmartLipo Procedure
During the SmartLipo procedure, an extremely small cannula – a thin hollow tube – is used just like in other liposuction techniques. As it reaches the targeted area, instead of manually breaking the tissue, laser technology is used to liquefy or melt the layer of fat.
SmartLipo uses three kinds of laser beams that reach different wavelengths. The blood vessels absorb the first one, promoting coagulation and leading to less hematoma and hemorrhage. The water molecules absorb the second, within the fat cell and works by heating the fat tissue. It also stimulates collagen production, tightening the skin. And the fat tissues absorb the third, generating enough heat to break the fat cells either thermally or mechanically.
After fat cells are liquefied or melted, the body’s drainage systems naturally absorb it all. Laser beams are also delivered to different skin layers stimulating collagen and elastin production.
Who is eligible for the treatment?
Any adults over 18 that carry localized pockets of fat in specific parts of their body can be eligible to perform the Smartlipo procedure. It must be mild or moderated fat build-up, not recommended as a treatment for obesity. The most common areas treated with this procedure are the abdomen, upper arms, breasts, back, hips, thighs, knees, and even face or neck. This procedure can define a light contouring of a body part or give a more radical transformation.
Advantages of Smartlipo vs. Traditional Liposuction
- A minimally invasive procedure, with much less pain or discomfort.
- Stimulates tissue retraction through the coagulation of soft tissue.
- Less trauma and faster healing.
- Yields consistent results to the patient.
- Offers faster results compared to traditional liposuction.
Risks and Care
Laser liposuction is a very safe technique. However, as with any other surgery, it might bring some risks such as skin burn, infection, bleeding, hematoma, and even internal organ perforation. Therefore, it is crucial to have the treatment in a certified clinic with a specialized surgeon.
Dr. Khan specializes in the use of Smartlipo and has performed more than 4000 procedures in the past 12 years. He is one of the first adopters of the Smartlipo technology and has trained seven other medical doctors to perform the surgical process.
